Reissue of The Planets, one of the educational maps published by James Reynolds & Sons, showing a diagram drawn and engraved by John Emslie in 1860.
The astronomical diagram shows the relative size of the planets and their distance from the Sun. The telescopic aspect of Jupiter, Saturn and Mars is also illustrated in colour. The upper series of diagrams shows how the planets Venus and Mercury display phases like our Moon, as well as the changing appearance of Saturn's rings.
